How we build the calendar
- Public holidays come from official calendars and are checked against the open-source date-holidays dataset. Moving holidays (Easter, Thanksgiving, Mother’s Day, Ramadan and Eid) are calculated for each year.
- International days follow the United Nations list of international days and weeks.
- Awareness days and fun days come from the organisations that run them and from popular observance calendars. Fun days are unofficial: different sources sometimes give different dates. We leave out a fun day when we cannot confirm its date.
- Descriptions are written by us: one short, plain sentence per day. Days of remembrance get a calm tone and no celebration message.
The calendar on this site uses the same data as the app. The main day is chosen for the United States on the English pages and for Türkiye on the Turkish pages; in the app it follows your home country.
